S&W M&P 15-22 Review
Alright, this isn't much of a technical review, but I love the darn thing! I purchased it from bud's for a total of $460 in my hands. That was without the 3% cash discount and with a $30 FFL fee. So far I've shot a brick of federal hollowpoint walmart specials through it with very good results and about a magazine of minimags. Word on the street has been that they don't like remington golden bullets and that was my experience today as well. No fewer than 1 in 3 failed to feed and after that mag I didn't try anymore. I bought one of those swinging targets from midway and was just grinning from ear to ear this afternoon as I shot and shot and shot for a whopping $15. My recommendation, if you've been thinking about getting one, get it. If you own an AR and don't have a .22 platform for it yet, go pick up the SW. I've read all the arguments for conversion kits/Spikes uppers w/ standard lowers etc. to get the exact ergonomics as your MBR and all that but theres something nice about having a dedicated rifle that you don't have to swap anything out for or spend $700 on.

Glad to hear that you're having fun with the new "toy." I was looking at picking up a 10/22 for plinking & cheap shooting, but I may have to check one of those M&P 22s out first. Can you get high cap aftermarket magazines?

Actually I forgot to add that in my post. The only mags that work currently are the S&W's but they're 25 round mags. 44mag.com has them available for about 18 bucks which isn't bad at all considering thats where they usually really stick it to you (See the buckmark mags I just bought. $30 ea. ouch)

Re: S&W M&P 15-22 Review
I have an old Army buddy that comes by and shoots with me every now and then. He just bought one of those rifles new. We broke it in together. I was very impressed especially when you consider the price. I had long advocated a dedicated .22 upper for an AR but I just might have to get one of the S&W's myself.
Nice! Gregg |
